Dental Prosthetics Overview

Dental prosthetic is simply known as an artificial substitute used with an objective of reconstructing the normal functionality of the mouth and also improve the quality of life of patients who have one or more missing tooth. Such devices are specialized for specific need as they are fitted for a certain individual. The main kinds of dental prostheses include:

1.Dentures: Prosthetic appliances can help you to replace a number of missing teeth or an complete arch of teeth. They include those where artificial teeth are placed on a gum-coloured acrylic or metal base. Partial dentures are those that do not remove all the teeth within a single dental arch, while full dentures remove all the teeth within the arch in question.

2. Dental Bridges: Conventional or partially removable prosthetic appliances which are fitted to replace one or many a missing tooth. They are cemented to the neighbouring natural teeth or dental implants and are not removable.

3. Dental Implants: Operation appliances that mimic the root of a missing tooth that require surgery to implant. They are screwed into the jawbone and offer a stable base to which the artificial teeth such as heads or bridges can be fixed on.

4. Dental Crowns: They are also referred to as caps, these prosthetic restorations are placed on teeth in a manner that conceals them so as to protect them where they have been damaged or significantly eroded by decay. These are usually made to the exact specifications of the adjacent natural teeth in regard to shape, hue, and size, and are cemented in.

5. Dental Veneers: Thin, custom-made shells of porcelain or composite resin that are bonded to the front surface of teeth. Veneers enhance the appearance of teeth by altering their color, shape, size, or alignment.

The selection of a dental prosthesis depends on various factors, including the number and location of missing teeth, the condition of surrounding oral structures, the patient’s oral health, and personal preferences. Dentists and prosthodontists specialize in the design, fabrication, and placement of these prosthetic devices.
